Mugen Kuppuku Island has grown in population and commerce, and so has its local law enforcement. The National Police Agency of Japan (NPA) responded to requests by the elders of the village to establish a police presence on the island. Due to budget limitations and the distance of Mugen Kuppuku from the mainland, the main police station overseeing island law enforcement remains on the mainland.
To assist in maintaining order, the police established a kōban in the village. In Japan, a kōban is a small substation typically located near major transportation hubs, shopping areas, or residential districts. They serve as the first line of response to public needs and are typically staffed by several officers.
The kōban in Mugen Kuppuku is staffed by a police sergeant and police officers, and is visited by high-ranking officials on occasion due to the island’s unique mix of wealth, Yakuza influence, and remoteness. At times, the kōban may also be commandeered by the Supernatural Task Force for joint operations requiring local assistance.
Police in the kōban typically work eight-hour shifts. Because the building is small, there are no sleeping or eating quarters inside. Officers are given vouchers to eat at local restaurants, and many live within walking distance in the village. The police strive to be part of the community, and it is not unusual to see their families assisting with small tasks around the kōban.

Characters who roleplay as law enforcement may or may not be corrupted by Yakuza. It is up to the player to decide whether they will be a “good cop” or a “bad cop.”
If you wish to roleplay a law enforcement character corrupted by Yakuza, you should review the local Yakuza culture of Mugen Kuppuku Island. This information can be found in the Mugen Kuppuku Island Yakuza Guidebook.

VI. Job Descriptions
Keishi (Superintendent)
The Superintendent is the head of the mainland police station and oversees all kōban within the district. At times, the Superintendent may need to report to the city council and mayor of Mugen and make public statements about public safety. This is an ideal role for someone who roleplays periodically, as the character would return to the mainland frequently. Once accepted, you will be invited to the Kōban Staff role in the Mugen Kuppuku Village group. This role is open to characters whose backstory includes the proper education/training/experience, including prior service as a Keibu (Police Inspector) and passing the required examination.
Keibu (Police Inspector)
This is the equivalent of a detective. The Police Inspector’s office is located on the mainland, but they may visit Mugen Kuppuku Island when assistance is needed. Police Inspectors gather forensic evidence and support prosecution and arrest. This is an ideal role for someone who roleplays periodically, as the character may return to the mainland frequently. Once accepted, you will be invited to the Kōban Staff role in the Mugen Kuppuku Village group.
Keibu-ho (Assistant Police Inspector)
The Assistant Police Inspector supports the Police Inspector by conducting interviews, collecting evidence, performing database searches, and assisting with case-building research. This is an ideal role for periodic roleplayers, as the character may return to the mainland frequently. Once accepted, you will be invited to the Kōban Staff role in the Mugen Kuppuku Village group.
Junsa-bucho (Police Sergeant)
The Police Sergeant oversees officers working beneath them and manages daily kōban operations. They assign duties, ensure surveys and registration records are completed, anticipate community needs, and organize educational/preventive events to keep the public safe. This is a preferred role for more active roleplayers. The Police Sergeant receives applications, conducts IC interviews, and accepts new employees. If you hire anyone, post in this thread so the employee listing can be updated. Once accepted, you will be invited to Kōban Staff in the Mugen Kuppuku Village group and may be given rights to make announcements in that group.
Junsa (Police Officer)
Police Officers are the primary staff of the kōban. Duties include patrol, receiving crime reports, handling lost and found items, providing directions, questioning suspicious persons, warning citizens of danger, and assisting injured people. Officers are commonly on foot or bicycle and are expected to know the island extremely well. Once accepted, you will be invited to the Kōban Staff role in the Mugen Kuppuku Village group.
