The Village Clinic is run by locals with skills in medical care. Staff are able to respond to minor emergencies such as childbirth, light concussions, lacerations, wounds, diabetic issues, and the nutritional needs of supernaturals. The clinic can also provide consultations for a variety of medical concerns and offers outpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapy.

The clinic is not equipped for major medical emergencies, including heart attack, stroke, seizures, septic shock, respiratory failure, severe crush injuries, major trauma, amputations, cancer, coma, psychiatric emergencies, or any condition requiring intensive care or telemetry monitoring. Patients beyond the clinic’s ability to assist are airlifted to the mainland for further care.

Doctors typically work at the Village Clinic on a volunteer basis, and students may sometimes intern here as part of their studies at Mugen Kuppuku Academy.

II. Medical Training Notes

For players wanting to roleplay a doctor or medical student, the following information may help with planning:

After high school graduation, students enroll in six years of medical school. Mugen Kuppuku Academy is considered to have a medical program, so this may be roleplayed there. During this period, practice is performed using dummies and simulated clinics with no hands-on experience on real patients. After graduation, they receive the degree of MD.

After medical school, there is a mandatory two-year rotation program exposing trainees to internal medicine, emergency medicine, and community medicine. At this stage they are often referred to as medical trainees, working with real patients under mentor supervision. This is an ideal time to roleplay in the school clinic, village clinic, or mainland hospital.

After rotations, an additional three years are required to meet board certification requirements for many specialties (pediatrics, internal medicine, physiatry, etc.). Surgical specialties may take up to six years. This is a useful framework for older characters or background NPCs.
