Mugen Kuppuku Academy Faculty & Support Staff Guidebook
“To teach here is to shape the minds that will shape the world.”

✒️ I. Introduction
Mugen Kuppuku Academy’s faculty are the cornerstone of the institution — the minds and mentors who uphold its academic excellence, guide its students, and maintain the delicate balance between discipline and discovery. To hold a teaching or staff position here is not merely employment; it is a symbol of prestige, accomplishment, and trust within the Academy’s ancient hierarchy.
Faculty members include professors, lecturers, counselors, and assistants who oversee both the educational and administrative functions of the school. Each is hand-selected for expertise in their field and for their capacity to embody the Academy’s values of honor, intellect, and restraint.
Support staff members — such as librarians, groundskeepers, IT specialists, and custodians — form the quiet backbone of the campus. Though they are not instructors, their work sustains the environment in which learning and roleplay flourish.
Together, the faculty and support staff preserve the legacy envisioned by the Academy’s founder, Agony Dreamscape: a sanctuary where knowledge is sacred, structure is stability, and every lesson echoes long after the final bell.

✒️ II. Out-of-Character Responsibilities
Faculty members at Mugen Kuppuku Academy serve as both storytellers and stewards of the roleplay environment. As Game Masters, they guide interactions, foster collaboration, and ensure that every class, event, and storyline upholds the Academy’s standards of quality and respect.
Faculty with the MKA Faculty tag hold recognized GM privileges and are expected to demonstrate leadership both in-character and out-of-character. These responsibilities include:
➡ Maintaining Roleplay Flow — Control pacing, manage turn order, and balance participation so that every player has a chance to contribute meaningfully to a scene.
➡ Upholding Conduct — Address griefing, trolling, or harassment swiftly and respectfully. One polite warning is sufficient before escalating issues to an administrator.
➡ Encouraging Immersion — Limit excessive out-of-character chatter during scenes. Remind players to use IMs for casual conversation so the atmosphere remains intact.
➡ Reporting Rule Violations — If a rule is broken or a scene becomes disruptive, contact an administrator listed in the Mugen Kuppuku Island Administrators and ALTs directory.
➡ Using Announcements Responsibly — Faculty may use group notices or chat to promote classes, events, or updates, provided they do so professionally and in character when possible.
➡ Maintaining Class Schedules — Teachers are expected to follow their posted schedules or arrange substitutes when unavailable. Consistency builds trust and realism in the roleplay.
➡ Scene Management — Faculty may rezz temporary classroom or event props, following the current guidelines under Mugen Kuppuku Academy → Faculty & Support Staff → Prim Usage. All temporary items must be removed after use.
Faculty who become inactive for extended periods will have their status changed to “GM on Hiatus” and their rezzed items removed. They can return to active status at any time by resuming participation, though class topics may have been reassigned in the meantime.
Support Staff Members — such as custodians, librarians, or IT personnel — do not hold Game Master powers but are still encouraged to create smaller, everyday interactions that add color to the world. They should also remove temporary props after use and adhere to the island’s general OOC rules.
All faculty and support staff have access to the #faculty-and-support-staff Discord channel, which may be used for in-character communication (via TupperBox) or out-of-character coordination. They are also enrolled in three key groups:
-
MKA Faculty – private faculty communication
-
Mugen Kuppuku Academy – access to the campus PA system for announcements
-
Mugen Kuppuku Village – rezz rights and cross-campus collaboration

✒️ III. In-Character Rules
Faculty and support staff of Mugen Kuppuku Academy are held to the highest professional and ethical standards. These expectations are enforced in-character as part of the roleplay environment; breaking them may lead to in-character disciplinary action but not out-of-character punishment.
The following guidelines reflect the decorum expected of all Academy personnel:
➡ Professional Conduct — Faculty are to dress formally and maintain punctuality for all appointments, meetings, and lectures. Support staff should wear attire suitable to their duties.
➡ Chain of Authority — In the absence of the Headmaster, decision-making authority passes to the Deputy Headmaster or the School Secretary, who may issue directives for daily operations.
➡ Representation of the Academy — Faculty and staff are considered the public face of Mugen Kuppuku. They must preserve the school’s reputation through discipline, integrity, and measured behavior at all times.
➡ Boundaries with Students — Romantic or sexual relationships between staff and students are strictly forbidden. Mentorship must remain professional, and authority must never be used for personal gain.
➡ Transparency and Ethics — All potential conflicts of interest must be disclosed to the Headmaster’s office. Faculty who fail to do so risk formal reprimand or dismissal.
➡ Respect and Mentorship — Teachers are expected to cultivate respect through example—treating students fairly, offering guidance, and ensuring that every lesson promotes growth in both knowledge and character.
To teach at Mugen is to embody restraint and wisdom; every action, word, and decision ripples through the island’s legacy.

✒️ IV. Staff Positions
To accommodate a wide range of teaching styles, schedules, and story participation, Mugen Kuppuku Academy offers several faculty and staff positions. Each role carries different responsibilities and levels of in-character authority within the school’s hierarchy.
Detailed Overview
a) Full-Time Staff
Full-time faculty are the backbone of the Academy. They host regular classes, supervise student organizations, and manage academic discipline. These professors may also run detentions, study halls, and field trips, giving them the broadest range of Game Master authority.
Classes generally run about two hours but may be shorter if needed. Faculty should:
-
Announce classes in advance through group notices.
-
Send a reminder shortly before class.
-
Rezz temporary classroom props (and remove them after).
If a teacher must miss a session, they should coordinate a substitute or contact the administration. Faculty taking extended hiatuses should inform the current coordinator so their class topics can be reassigned if necessary.
b) Seminar Teachers
Seminar instructors run flexible, discussion-based courses that often take place in the forums or through one-on-one meetings. They schedule brief weekly sessions or office hours to consult with students individually.
These courses are designed for roleplayers who prefer shorter commitments but still want to teach and contribute to ongoing storylines.
c) Teacher’s Assistants
Teacher’s Assistants (TAs) are training educators or graduate students gaining field experience.
They help professors by managing class materials, mentoring students, hosting small study sessions, or aiding with detentions.
TAs are unpaid interns in-character and may only assist with a class at the discretion of its lead instructor.
Students who wish to become TAs must contact the School Secretary in-character to apply.
d) Academic Guest Speakers
Guest lecturers appear for single-session or short-term topics, such as a visiting author presenting a lecture or a martial artist hosting a demonstration.
They are not required to keep a regular schedule but should check the Mugen Kuppuku Island Calendar to avoid conflicts with existing classes.
Guest speakers should announce their sessions at least two hours before they begin through group notices or the in-character announcements channel.
e) Support Staff
Support staff members keep the Academy running smoothly behind the scenes.
They may not teach, but their roles are vital to the realism and rhythm of campus life.
Examples include:
-
Librarians and archivists maintaining ancient tomes
-
Counselors and psychologists offering guidance
-
Janitors, groundskeepers, and maintenance staff
-
Campus security or bodyguards ensuring safety
-
Butlers, chefs, and other service workers supporting faculty and students
Support staff can host small slice-of-life events — anything from a maintenance mishap to a library exhibit — that enhance immersion across the campus.

✒️ V. In-Character Events
Beyond day-to-day classes, Mugen Kuppuku Academy encourages its faculty and support staff to host a variety of in-character events that enrich roleplay, inspire creativity, and develop deeper relationships among characters. These gatherings range from structured academic activities to spontaneous campus moments that add texture to the world.
Below are examples of sanctioned events that faculty and staff may organize:
a) Cram Class
A focused study session designed to help students prepare for upcoming exams, presentations, or tournaments.
Any faculty or qualified support staff member may host a cram class at any time, provided it does not overlap with another scheduled event.
Announcements can be posted through the Mugen Kuppuku Academy group or the #ic-announcements Discord channel.
Cram classes often encourage collaboration between students from different dorms and provide an excellent opportunity for casual RP.
b) Detention
Detentions are disciplinary sessions assigned to students who have broken academy rules or otherwise dishonored the school.
These can range from cleaning classrooms to writing long apology essays—or, in rare cases, performing community service under supervision.
Faculty and authorized support staff may host detentions privately (for one or two students) or publicly (for multiple offenders).
Public detentions must be scheduled at least two hours apart from other classes to avoid overlap.
While corporal punishment is not the norm, its use is left to the discretion of the Headmaster and should always serve story and character development rather than harm.
c) Faculty Meetings
These gatherings allow faculty and staff to discuss academic progress, disciplinary matters, and school-wide events in-character.
Meetings may be called by Headmaster Avery Yotov, the School Secretary, or any senior faculty member acting with authority.
Agendas often include planning upcoming festivals, reviewing dorm standings, or coordinating cross-department lessons.
Faculty meetings are excellent opportunities for collaborative storytelling and character politics.
d) Team-Building Events
Occasionally, the Academy sponsors recreational or morale-boosting outings to strengthen bonds between faculty and staff.
These can include trips to the mainland, beach picnics, card nights in the village, or friendly inter-department competitions.
Such activities are optional but encouraged—they remind every teacher that even within strict formality, camaraderie thrives.
e) Random Events
Support staff are encouraged to create small, spontaneous scenarios that bring realism and humor to daily campus life:
a burst pipe, a misplaced archive tome, a system-wide network crash, or an unexpected guest.
Minor disruptions like these add warmth and unpredictability to the world, while still respecting ongoing storylines.
For large-scale plots or cross-department incidents, staff should coordinate with the Mugen Kuppuku Island Administrators and ALTs list to maintain continuity.
From solemn lectures to sudden chaos, every scene led by the faculty breathes life into the Academy and its traditions.
